Stephen King is an unrivalled horror mastermind. One thing he's exceptionally good at is blending the supernatural into very regular scenarios, with some being so unexpected they make the whole story shift on its axis. You can definitely expect that in this tale.

The first Children of the Corn movie plays out in a way that keeps the supernatural side ambiguous. It follows a couple who stumble across a strange town run by children who are part of a bizarre religious cult, killing everyone 19 or over. They do this to appease their god, He Who Walks Behind the Rows.

It's not made explicitly clear whether this being really exists or not, as there are allusions to the truth, but nothing is outright shown. But then, the main villain, Isaac, is devoured by the deity in a sacrifice scene, and, oh god, the kids' religion is real! It then gets even crazier as Isaac comes back to life, possessed by the deity, and takes another one of the kids with him.

This sacrifice scene comes with some poorly aged, hokey visual effects, but it does at least prove that these kids were being controlled by a malevolent spirit, not just being evil brats on their own.
