10 Best Horror Movies With A Supernatural Twist Ending

4. Underwater

Underwater is a very interesting science fiction film, as while it's certainly not realistic, it still presents itself in a plausible light. Hell, we don't know what's down there at the bottom of the Mariana Trench; many of these monsters could exist. But then comes the ending, where those who know know this is no longer a natural film.

Underwater takes place, shockingly, underwater, as a collection of workers attempt to survive in a futuristic facility at the bottom of the ocean. They're attacked by strange creatures, which start to get very weird after they become increasingly humanoid.

The movie's climax is where sh** hits the fan, as a behemoth monster with tentacles on its face appears. It's not explicitly established in the movie, but the film's director, William Eubank, has confirmed that this betentacled giant is none other than Cthulhu, the ancient Lovecraftian god.

Chucking some unexpected cosmic horror at the end of your movie is one hell of a way to switch things up from moderately plausible sci-fi to supernatural existentialism. Bravo!

While Cthulhu isn't presented in Underwater as the pure cosmic deity he is in the Lovecraft mythos, it still presents a much grander, supernatural side to the flick.
