10 Best Horror Movies With A Supernatural Twist Ending
3. Angel Heart
Neo-noir detective thrillers are certainly dark, but they tend to play it close to real life, posing compelling mysteries and murders. Then, there's Angel Heart, which lures you in and then pulls the rug out from under you.
The film follows Harry Angel (Mickey Rourke), a detective tasked by the mysterious Louis Cyphre (Robert De Niro) to track down a missing crooner and war veteran called Johnny Favorite.
Within the story, you find out that Johnny Favorite really was a favourite. Of Hell, that is, as he sold his soul to Lucifer for fame (that old chestnut). That's the first twist, but there's another one coming, so hold on.
It turns out De Niro's Louis Cyphre is Lucifer himself, and Rourke's Angel is Johnny Favorite, having changed his identity, repressed his memories, and killed a bunch of people throughout the film. Damn, that is a lot.
Of course, this one might not have come out of nowhere for all of you, as the "subtle" name Louis Cyphre and the casting choice of the compelling Robert De Niro definitely have a hint of the devil about them. Still, being completely thrown into a sudden supernatural horror in this neo-noir detective movie sure is a thrill.
