10. "Boring Conversation Anyway" - Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope
Han Solo was at his best in A New Hope, and easily one of his greatest moments in the film comes when the rag-tag gang of Han, Luke, and Chewbacca attempt to break Princess Leia out of her cell. After subduing the stormtroopers stationed outside of the cell block, Han is forced to confer with more Imperial officials over the intercom system, who are desperate to get a status report after hearing the commotion caused by the gun battle. What makes this scene hilarious is Harrison Ford's acting, which exudes that sort of desperate and improvisational anxiety that would become a staple for his action heroes. The writing is also terrific, especially when Han asks the officer on the other end of the intercom how he is doing, which sounds laughably unofficial. And of course, the cherry on the top of the scene is Han's throwaway line at the very end. He ends up shooting the intercom system in the midst of a minor panic attack, muttering that it was a "boring conversation anyway." These elements provided not only great characterisation for Han Solo, but also illustrated the sort of easy charm that would become the film's trademark.

A devoted fan of all film genres and styles, Adam gets equally giddy over the sensitive, existential musings of Ingmar Bergman, and the brawny brilliance of Arnold Schwartzenegger. He loves fish tacos and misses the work of Heath Ledger and Jack Lemmon on a daily basis.
