10 Best Mission: Impossible Stunts

4. The Jackknife Truck: Mission: Impossible 3 (2006)

Some of the most hair-raising stunts in the Mission: Impossible franchise are also the most fleeting on screen, and with all the other spectacular set pieces occurring in Mission: Impossible 3, it's easy to overlook the comparatively meagre affair of a jackknifed truck, skidding along a road.

The stunt itself, however, is by no means meagre, and pretty damn terrifying when you learn the backstory. Once again it required nerves of steel from Mr Cruise who, not for the first time, put nothing less than his life in the hands his loyal stunt crew, namely, the man driving the truck. Again, no pressure.

The big-ass trailer was rigged to skid at an exact angle, passing over Tom/Ethan, and with the juggernaut wheels either side missing by less distance than was surely sensible. If anything went wrong with this, the result would be less of an injury and more of an outright fatality.

At least it looked decent on film, with all the suspense to boot. Never before has lying on the ground and doing nothing seemed like such a daunting prospect for a stunt.
