7. William Hurt

A four time Academy Award nominee, William Hurt has had a three-decade-long career full of interesting roles. Initially a theater performer, Hurt turned to film acting with his role in 1980's Altered States but it wasn't until he played the lead role in Lawrence Kasdan's Body Heat that he established himself as one of the best actors in Hollywood. In 1985, Hurt won Best Actor at the Oscars for his role in Kiss of the Spider Woman, kicking off a run of interesting films. Hurt continued to play a variety of roles throughout the 80's, 90's, and 2000's with too many to adequately list here. Some highlights include Dark City, A.I. Artificial Intelligence, A History of Violence, and Into the Wild. Equally comfortable playing intellectuals, villains, or an every-man, Hurt is one of the most versatile character actors working today and he shows no signs of slowing down.
