10 Best Movie Plot Twists Of 2024
These plot twists blew everyone away.
Who among us doesn't love a movie with a corker of a plot twist? A well-crafted narrative sleight of hand can place a cherry on top of an already-great movie and elevate it into the upper echelons of filmmaking.
But it's also fair to say that a genuinely smart and surprising twist is tricky to pull off these days with how savvy modern audiences are, and also that trying too hard to bamboozle the audience can result in a reveal that's shocking only for its own sake.
All the same, these 10 movies from the past year all pulled off some truly spectacular and unexpected rug-pulls that got just about everybody talking.
From a surprise cameo in the year's biggest superhero movie to a totally bonkers, surreal reality-shifting moment, and a handful of shocking endings that nobody saw coming, these twists were by far the most ingenious and brilliantly executed of the entire year.
Needless to say, if 2025 is going to live up to the most wild, left-field twists we all got served over the past year, it's gonna need to get really, really out-there...
10. Chris Evans Is The Human Torch (NOT Captain America) - Deadpool & Wolverine
We all knew that Deadpool and Wolverine was going to have a bevy of cameos, but did anyone expect things to go quite like this?
Chris Evans shows up fairly early on in the movie, appearing as an unnamed character in The Void who crosses paths with Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman).
Though we're initially led to assume he's a variant of Captain America, it's in fact revealed moments later that he's a variant of Johnny Storm aka The Human Torch - the very same character Evans played in Fox's original Fantastic Four movies in the mid-2000s.
It's tremendous fun not only seeing Evans gamely return to the cocksure superhero he played years before he became an icon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but also hearing him do something Cap never would - be extremely foul-mouthed.
And if this all isn't wild enough, Johnny then meets a brutal fate when Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin) rips his skin from his body for allegedly insulting her. Nice.
