10 Best Movie Robots
1. Wall-E - Wall-E
While R2-D2 manages to build personality and influence the plot without a word, Wall-E manages to carry an entire movie dialogue free.
And what a movie it is, too. Wall-E could comfortably stake a claim as Pixar’s best ever offering. It faces stiff competition from Up, Inside Out and the Toy Story hit factory (along with several others), but Wall-E definitely deserves to be in the conversation.
The human characters are very much bit part players, and EVE, great though she is, doesn’t feature in large chunks of the movie. The success of Wall-E rests almost entirely on Wall-E himself, and the cuddly little robot absolutely crushes it.
Not since Stitch has Disney had a character so expressive in their body language, and it’s all the more impressive here as Wall-E often has no one to bounce his scenes off.
Wall-E is shy, neurotic, nostalgic, romantic, heroic... and we know all this without ever having to hear him speak. He’s simply a wonderful character and while there are robots who are tougher than him or cooler than him, when it comes to storytelling there’s really no one better than him.
