7. 25th Hour

Spike Lee's 25th Hour opened to a moderate amount of commercial and critical success, but since its release in 2002 has gained ground as a cult favorite. Starring an all-star cast including Ed Norton, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Brian Cox, 25th Hour follows Monty Brogan in his final hours as a free man before serving a 7 year prison sentence for selling drugs. When at a club the night before he goes to the big house, he goes to the bathroom and sees profanity scribbled on the mirror. He stares at the mirror as his reflection launches into a diatribe against everything he hates about New York City. It's a racist, homophobic and myopic rant that is reminiscent of Travis Bickle wanting to clean up the streets, as well as the montage of racial epithets from Lee's masterpiece Do The Right Thing. He then goes after the corruption of police officers and the Catholic church. Then, after launching his attack on Osama Bin Laden, he goes after his friends, girlfriend and father. Then, in a moment of clarity, he attacks the one person who he hates the most: himself.
