The Theory of Everything received a lot of attention back in 2015 due to Eddie Redmayne’s portrayal of Stephen Hawking. What’s particularly striking about Redmayne’s acting is how well he captures the gradual deterioration of Hawking’s physical functions.

However, Redmayne isn’t the only performer who stands out here. Felicity Jones is terrific as Jane Hawking, and David Thewlis is also charming as Dennis W. Sciama – Hawking’s tutor and advisor. Indeed, the fatherly affection of Remus Lupin is also present in this character.

What's more, the film carries a distinctive tone. The orchestral soundtrack and the architecture of Cambridge University blend together to create a vivid flavour. The filmmakers make you feel as though they’ve travelled back in time. And even as the story takes the audience through more of Hawking’s life, it never loses this old-fashioned feel.

There’s a lot more to this movie than just Redmayne’s performance. All the actors hold their own and the atmosphere is highly commendable.
