10 Best Movies Actors Did After Harry Potter
6. Darkest Hour – Gary Oldman (Sirius Black)
Darkest Hour is another historical film with an Oscar-winning performance. Gary Oldman – with the help of some outstanding prosthetics – takes on the role of Winston Churchill, and though many actors have played this iconic leader, Oldman’s portrayal might be the best ever.
It’s one of those performances that’s so good you simply don’t see the actor. For the entire film, you feel as though you’re watching the real Winston Churchill. Of course, critics gave Oldman plenty of praise at the time of the film’s release, but Churchill’s own granddaughter also approved of the performance.
The film further benefits from a narrow focus. Rather than taking the audience through the entire war, the story looks exclusively at Churchill’s early days as Prime Minister and the threat of the German army.
Whilst Darkest Hour isn’t always historically accurate, Oldman’s performance as Britain’s most well-known Prime Minister is nothing short of perfection. If you enjoy a good historical drama, Darkest Hour is essential viewing.
