10 Best Movies Of 2013 (So Far)

3. Blue is the Warmest Colour

Blue is the Warmest Colour Winner of the Cannes Film Festival's coveted Palme D'Or award at last night's closing ceremony, Blue is the Warmest Colour is sure to be one of the year's most talked about films, and if it can secure a US theatrical release, is likely to be a fierce competitor for the Best Foreign Language Film honour at the Academy Awards. Blue tells the coming-of-age story of a young high school student, Adele (Adele Exarchopoulos), as she discovers her sexuality over the course of a decade, and her relationship with art student Emma (Lea Seydoux) makes for the most emotionally engaging and deeply felt romance in any film this year. Featuring graphic, lengthy lesbian sex scenes that are sure to cause a stir with both censors and distributors, it is likely that these scenes will need to be cut before the film is distributed in the US and UK, though hopefully doing so will not dilute the raw physical and emotional power of the film. In an unprecedented move, Steven Spielberg and his jury decided to award the Palme not just to director Abdellatif Kechiche, but the two lead actresses also, proving how integral to the film's composition and success they were. Release Info: Worldwide release dates TBA.
