Alex Kingston left a devastation of timey-wimey induced headaches in her wake whenever she popped up in Doctor Who as the enigmatic River Song but here she is in a role that's much closer to home (in the sense that it doesn't require her to leave the confines of planet Earth) and one that, you'll no doubt be pleased to hear, is considerably easier to get your head around. Thank God for that! There's still plenty of domesticated drama to go around, though, if you like that sort of thing, and this time it doesn't involve her character being revealed as a time travelling psychopath. This award-winning 2011 romantic comedy tells the story of two students whose otherwise enviable love story is hindered by the slightly inconvenient fact that they happen to live in different continents. It's helmed by one off Doctor Who guest star - and now Academy Award nominee - Felicity Jones making her leading movie role debut, while Alex joins the cast ensemble as her mother, Jackie. An endearing character driven piece, also featuring Jennifer Lawrence, which portrays the harsh realities of maintaining a long distance relationship. Ain't no fairytales here, folks. Life's a bitch like that.
