4. The Hobbit
The Lord of the Rings franchise has gone down in movie history as one of the most epic sagas of all time but it's common cinematic knowledge that all good trilogies come in pairs. That is, until Disney acquire the rights. Peter Jackson made his long overdue return to Middle Earth when he vowed to adapt The Hobbit for the big screen and, as a self confessed Doctor Who fanatic, the proceedings wouldn't have been complete without enlisting the services of a former Time Lord. In what was no doubt a case of opening up the 1987 Doctor Who annual and saying "eeny, meeny, miny, moe", Sylvester McCoy was cast as Radagast the wizard and the Seventh Doctor star isn't the only familiar Doctor Who face who played a part in bringing the story of Bilbo Baggins to life. Sir Ian McKellen, who voiced the sinister Snowmen in the 2012 Christmas Special, also reprised his reputable role as Gandalf the Grey and most of Sylvester's scenes are with him so it's literally like watching two universes collide. It's the stuff fanboy dreams are made of.
