3. Shrek Storms The Castle (Holding Out For A Hero - Bonnie Tyler/Jennifer Saunders)
At the finale of Shrek 2, Shrek and his band of fairy tale friends attempt to storm the castle in order to prevent Prince Charming, who is posing as Shrek, from kissing Princess Fiona before midnight.
In celebration of Charming and Fiona's union together, the palace throw a massive ball and The Fairy Godmother (voiced by Jennifer Saunders) headlines the spectacle with an outstanding performance of Holding Out For A Hero by Bonnie Tyler.
This timeless track is the perfect soundtrack to Shrek's plan of attack as he rides on top of a 50 foot tall Gingerbread Man called Mongo in order to breach the keep's defences. Despite rampaging through most of the castle's defences and surviving some damage from a hail storm of fireballs (NOT THE GUMDROP BUTTONS), Mongo eventually falls at the walls when cauldrons of hot milk are poured over him, breaking his doughy arms away from his torso and collapsing into the moat.
In this heroic sacrifice, Gingie (the smaller gingerbread man) dramatically dives into the salty waters below. Crestfallen, Gingie tries to help him back onto his feet but Mongo can only utter the words "Be good." A tragic moment but a hilarious nod to E.T nonetheless.
