10 Best Non-Horror Films To Watch This Halloween 2020

8. Beetlejuice

Nightmare Before Christmas
Warner Bros.

Beetlejuice is a film that - like many other Tim Burton titles - has this fantastic way of dealing with the concept of death. The finality and ambiguity of dying is something that haunts everyone, and therefore it is often depicted as a horrendous and dark process. This film presents death as a surprisingly vibrant but mundane experience.

There is a procedure and bureaucracy in crossing into the next plane of existence, and that gives the film this surprisingly wholesome outlook on the inevitable.

Newlywed couple Adam and Barbara have just perished. After a new family move into the house that they still occupy as spirits, they attempt to remove them by haunting them. Eventually, desperate times call for desperate measures, and they enlist the help of Beetlejuice, a perverted and abruptly rude ghost.

The film is a classic for anyone who has an obsession with the dark and macabre. The goofy plot and outrageously energetic performances - especially from Michael Keaton as the titular villain - give it an appropriately fun Halloween vibe.
