10 Best Psychological Thrillers Of All Time

2. The Silence Of The Lambs

Mulholland Drive
Orion Pictures

Winning five Oscars including Best Picture and both Best Actor awards for Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins, Jonathan Demme’s The Silence Of The Lambs isn’t just one of the best psychological thrillers ever made, but is often regarded as one of the greatest films of all time, with Hopkins’ spine-tingling performance as Hannibal Lecter seeing the character forever ingrained into pop-culture.

Adapted from the novel by Thomas Harris, the film sees promising upcoming FBI agent Clarice Starling (Foster) assigned to apprehend a sadistic serial killer known as Buffalo Bill, who skins the bodies of his victims. But to help her create a psychological profile of the killer, she seeks out the help of the brilliant but cannibalistic psychiatrist Lecter for help. Though the main plot sees this unlikely duo work together to hunt down one serial killer, The Silence Of The Lambs is just as much a mental cat-and-mouse game between Starling and Hannibal, who enjoys playing mind games of his own.

Boosted by outstanding performances from the entire cast and entwined in a gripping crime thriller, the only way to make watching this film any better is by enjoying it with a nice chianti.
