10 Best Robin Williams Performances Of All Time

5. Lance Clayton - World's Greatest Dad (2009)

Robin Williams Good Morning Vietnam
Magnolia Pictures

An underrated dark comedy from Bobcat Goldthwait, World's Greatest Dad finds Robin Williams in his last stretch of his career, where he can frequently be found portraying disillusioned, aging men caught in the midst of a personal tragedy.

World's Greatest Dad is one of the best and most challenging of Williams' later roles, and one which once more finds perfect balance between his inspired comedic style and unrivalled dramatic talent.

The drama follows Lance (Williams), a disillusioned writer without fame who's blindsided by the death of his son (Daryl Sabara) via autoerotic asphyxiation. In hopes of saving his child some dignity, Lance stages his son's death to look like a suicide, penning a suicide note that ends up in the local paper.

Suddenly faced with a chance to live his dream, Lance writes a diary from his son's perspective, and finds his writing finally gaining the recognition he always wanted.

Darkly funny but ultimately tragic, Williams' performance is a startling exercise in mourning and moral confliction, and remains one of his last truly great movie performances.
