10 Best Scary Movies For People Who Hate Horror

3. The Lost Boys (1987)

30 Days Of Night
Warner Bros.

Wild. Wicked. Wacky. Biker Gangs. Vampires in the 80's. What more could you possibly want?

The Lost Boys is a movie plucked straight from the 80's, in the best way possible. It follows two brothers who have moved to a new town and after some typical galavanting they find themselves in a battle for the ages against a family of young blood sucking vamps' as they seek to live a normal life. One of the brothers - Michael - wakes one day with no memory of how he got there. Unfortunately he finds himself with a new quirk; a thirst for blood.

The 80's set pieces complete with punk rock, biker gangs, pop culture references and mullet hair styles provide a fun, thrilling ride for audiences and despite the wild twists, turns and fantastical elements the film serves up, it remains a highly re-watchable tale of family.

Akin to the tone of Buffy or Angel from the 90's and 2000's, the Lost Boys delicately balances playful blood and violence with a tone of amusement and levity. Audiences can expect to be on the edge of their seat knowing that buried underneath the wilder and more extravagant aspects of this movie lies real stakes (nice pun) and tangible consequences for the characters.

Now a cultural phenomenon, The Lost Boys is an elegant, genuine and sincere movie which maintains its focus on family and not taking itself too seriously.
