10 Best Sci-Fi Films People Who Hate Sci-Fi Should Watch
2. Colossal
Sometimes the giant monsters that destroy cities are just reflections of ourselves, but sometimes those problems can be conquered and controlled. Addiction and the issues that come with it don't have to be the end of us, and Colossal demonstrates that brilliantly.
The film stars Anne Hathaway as Gloria, a struggling alcoholic who has moved back home after a breakup. After a night of drinking, she goes to a local playground. Upon waking, she finds that a giant monster has terrorized the city of Seoul.
After another occurrence, she discovers that her appearance in the park brings forth the beast. She divulges this to a friend, and drama ensues. But it's sci-fi, so drama means more fights between giant monsters and giant robots over defenseless cities.
While this movie tells a sci-fi story about robots and monsters, it means dealing with the hardships and complications of being a person and how nothing is simple.
