10 Best Subplots In The Harry Potter Movies

8. Ron And Lavender’s Romance (The Half-Blood Prince)

Neville Longbottom
Warner Bros.

Ron gets into his first romantic relationship slighter later than his two best friends. After an impressive performance as Gryffindor keeper, he hooks up with Lavender Brown during the post-match celebrations.

Unfortunately, the relationship is very one-sided. Lavender acts like a child in a sweet shop whenever she’s around her new boyfriend. She’s totally besotted with him and even gives him a new nickname: Won-Won.

Whilst Lavender is definitely one of the most annoying characters in the series, Ron’s reactions to her childish behaviour are thoroughly entertaining. He puts up with her behaviour, but he’s clearly uncomfortable. Indeed, when Lavender gives him a new necklace in the middle of a busy corridor, he’s highly embarrassed.

Rupert Grint’s natural flair for comedy is the reason scenes like this work so well. Even without any dialogue, he can make the audience chuckle at his character’s unfortunate circumstances.

Though most of us were happy to see the back of Lavender, her relationship with Ron was fun whilst it lasted.
