10 Best Subplots In The Harry Potter Movies
2. Neville Becomes A Hero (The Deathly Hallows Part 2)
Neville Longbottom’s Hogwarts career doesn’t start particularly well. In his first year alone, he loses his toad, breaks his wrist, and gets petrified by Hermione.
He continues to be a bit of a fool throughout the early films, but he starts to toughen up during his fifth year when he joins Dumbledore’s Army and fights alongside Harry at the Ministry of Magic. Yet this is tame when compared with Neville’s transformation in The Deathly Hallows. When Harry, Ron, and Hermione arrive for the final battle, they encounter a completely different person.
Brimming with his newfound confidence, Neville is at the heart of the student rebellion. During the Battle of Hogwarts, he takes out an entire horde of enemies by destroying the Covered Bridge. And – best of all – this subplot ties in with the main storyline when Neville uses Gryffindor's sword to destroy the final Horcrux.
It’s a great moment that symbolises Neville’s dramatic transformation. He may have started out as a bumbling buffoon, but he ends his school journey in the most heroic way possible.
