10 Best Subplots In The Harry Potter Movies

3. Hermione And Krum’s Romance (The Goblet Of Fire)

The Triwizard Tournament is at the heart of Harry’s fourth adventure, and whilst the tasks are great to watch, the Yule Ball is the best part of the film.

Hermione is the most important part of this scene. Her romantic partnership with Viktor Krum is a great twist and a watershed moment in her personal journey. The pedantic, rule-obsessed bookworm from the first film is unrecognisable as she descends the steps into the Entrance Hall, resplendent in a magnificent pink dress.

Some characters embrace this new relationship better than others. Harry has no objections to Hermione’s romance, but Ron isn’t happy at all. Whilst he claims to be frustrated by the fact that Krum is from Durmstrang, it’s clear that he actually has feelings for Hermione.

So, as well as being an integral part of Hermione’s character arc, this subplot is also a nod to Ron’s true feelings, which are then confirmed later on in the second part of The Deathly Hallows.
