Self-isolation and quarantine were bad. Imagine how much worse it could have been if you were trapped there with your awful colleagues and co-workers. Such is the scenario faced by scientist Sarah (Lori Cardille) in George Romero's Day of the Dead. Trapped in an underground bunker with her fellow scientists and a team of twitchy military men, Sarah is in it for the long-haul - above ground, the apocalypse is in full swing.

With tensions rising, Sarah finds herself caught between the military and her mad scientist boss. By comparison, trained zombie Bub seems positively sedate. What's a woman to do, caught between the increasingly unhinged living and the bloodthirsty dead?

This, the third film in Romero's Living Dead trilogy, is the darkest and most nihilistic of the three. Not only is it a great zombie film, but it also perfectly encapsulates the experience of being trapped in a toxic work environment with a bunch of assholes. Thankfully, Sarah does manage to get herself out of there, flying off into the sunset with her two most chill colleagues. There's hope for us all yet.
