10 Big 2017 Movies Destined To Flop

No No Power Rangers!

2016 will leave a lot of movie bombs behind it, with Ben-Hur, Ghostbusters, Independence Day: Resurgence, Alice Through The Looking Glass, Gods Of Egypt and Zoolander 2 - to name a few - all failing to live up to expectations.

While some of those disappointments could be seen coming – sorry Ben-Hur – a lot of them took studios by surprise. It’s becoming harder to predict audience tastes, and relying on name brands to draw people in no longer guarantees success.

Looking ahead to 2017 Hollywood has dusted itself off and is ready to try again with a fresh batch of blockbusters, but a few of them are already sounding alarm bells. It could be weak reception to a trailer, or a studio constantly delaying something to a date with no competition, but the following movies are already giving executives sleepless nights.

Who knows, some of them could turn out to be critically acclaimed smashes, but at this moment in the time, it wouldn't be wise to bet on that.

10. King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword

With King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword Guy Ritchie is trying to meld a bizarre hybrid of his cockney geezer romps and a fantasy epic, which will reinvent Arthur as a lovable petty criminal destined to be King.

The first in a planned series of six movies certainly looks like it's getting showered with money, but it also looks bloated and unwieldy. It’s full of the director’s trademark flashy camera gimmicks, yet this meshing of epic and typical Guy Ritchie lark feels awkward. It definitely feels like one of the more unique blockbusters on the horizon, but that hasn’t translated to anyone being excited for it yet.

Reaction to the trailer was mostly bewilderment, and poor Charlie Hunnam has yet to find a movie role the equal of Sons Of Anarchy. It’s got a fantastic supporting cast and the studio will no doubt give it a big push, but that six movie plan is looking optimistic right now.
