10 Big 2017 Movies Destined To Flop

4. Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets

Power Rangers
EuropaCorp

Valerian is a longtime dream project for director Luc Besson, so it could go either way; it’ll either be a tremendous bomb in the Jupiter Ascending vein or 2017’s biggest sleeper hit. It’s got an epic scale, an epic budget and a great cast, so it has the makings of a spiritual successor to The Fifth Element.

On the flipside, it’s based on an obscure French comic, and in a year with a similar sci-fi romp- namely Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.2 – it may struggle to get noticed. It’s also coming in something of a packed summer, so a combination of the strange premise and lack of name recognition may work against it.

Finally, it must monster hit to be successful, considering the budget isn’t far off $200 million. That said, it might be the breath of fresh air audiences are seeking, and Besson has form taking a strange premise – namely Lucy – and turning it into a sizable hit.

Good luck, Luc.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
