10 Biggest Casting Mistakes In MCU History

5. Lee Pace (Guardians Of The Galaxy And Captain Marvel)

Now the issues with Lee Pace's casting as Ronan the Accuser are not down to him being a diva or giving the studio a swathe of bad publicity to deal with. The issues with Pace's standing in the MCU derive from his actual performance.

As a villain you are expected to inspire a certain amount of dread and authority, yet Pace took that note and applied it to quite literally every moment he spends on our screen in the MCU and every line he delivers within it - which now spans two films thanks to Captain Marvel.

In another time Ronan would be safe as a perfectly serviceable big bad, but in 2019 he incites about as much fear and anticipation as the thought of running out of orange juice.

Marvel have done so well in recent years when it comes to create complex and conflicted villains to bounce off our well rounded heroes, Ronan sadly remains (if he chooses to pop up in any other prequels) as a sharp reminder of what was Marvel's achilles heel for so long.
