10 Biggest Missed Opportunities In Recent Comic Book Movies
6. Damage Control For Batman V. Superman (Justice League)
It is not an exaggeration to say that the DCEU and Warner Bros. as a whole is still reeling from the cinematic disaster that was Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. The movie was so bad that it threatened to derail the entire franchise and the only reason Warner Bros. is still a viable company is because they frantically re-shot multiple movies to try and move away from the tone and aesthetic of the film.
Justice League was originally supposed to be two movies but was re-edited into one in the wake of Batman v. Superman. Zach Snyder stepped away from the film due to a personal tragedy and his director's chair was filled by Joss Whedon, and fans were hopeful that a new perspective might help to correct the horrific scars on the series left by Justice League's immediate predecessor.
These hopes were dashed on the opening weekend. It's unclear if it was Snyder or Whedon's decision, but Justice League actively ignored that the events and tone of Batman v. Superman had ever happened.
And by ignoring there had even been problems to solve, Justice League not only made those issues all the more visible, but introduced numerous plot holes and continuity issues that continue to destabilize the franchise to this day.
