10 Biggest Mistakes Terminator Genisys Has Already Made

10. Fan-Baiting Casting

For all its then-flashy effects and high-concept plot, The Terminator's real creative ace was its casting; Linda Hamilton, Michael Biehn and, of course, Arnold Schwarzenegger made that movie to the point they are all still best known for their roles in the 1984 low budget sci-fi. The casting for Terminator Genisys, on the other hand, seems to be just an extension of the marketing. All of the central castings in the film are aimed at various mainstream geek demographics, attempting to build excitement outside of Terminator's fanbase. Just think about it. Is Emilia Clarke playing Sarah Connor (taking a role last embodied by Game Of Thrones co-star Lena Headey) because she's the best fit for the judgement-day-stopper or because she's Daenerys Targaryen, Mother of Dragons and First of Her Name to get nude? Is Matt Smith here based on his versatility, or because his Doctor was the most popular in Doctor Who's history? Heck, there's even Jason Clarke in the movie as John Connor, who was not only the only memorable non-Gary Oldman human from Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, but also looks a bit like Rick from The Walking Dead. Casting popular-in-the-moment actors isn't always a bad thing (it's almost a rule a new movie must feature a breakout star from either Game Of Throne or Downton Abbey), but here it's so targeted at stealing a TV audience it's easy to think skill wasn't even a concern. There's only one big casting that breaks this rule, but that's so perplexingly out there it'll have to be discussed in more depth later.
