10 Biggest Movie Controversies Of 2021
2. Hollywood Directors Hate The MCU
Ironically, considering this list features two other high-profile news stories about it, several well-known directors have spent the majority of the pandemic loudly, and angrily, telling any journalist who will listen about their contempt for the Marvel Cinematic Universe - repeatedly thrusting the films into news cycle time and time again.
This isn't anything new either, as directors like Martin Scorsese, Ken Loach, and Francis Ford Coppola have been bringing up their hatred for the MCU as early as 2018, constantly debating whether or not the films are "cinema" and, in the words of Loach, criticising them for being a "commodity which will make a profit for a big corporation".
Recently, directors Denis Villeneuve and Ridley Scott have decided to throw their hats into the ring, too. Villeneuve was quoted as saying the films are "cut and paste" jobs, and that they'd transformed the general populace into "zombies".
Scott was a bit less erudite about his critique, calling them "f***ing boring as sh*t" and calling their scripts "not any f***ing good". Whether or not you agree, it is funny that both Villeneuve and Scott chose to voice these complaints during the marketing push for their respective movies, garnering headlines in the process.
