10 Biggest Movie Douchebags From The 80s

5. Richard "Dick" Vernon - The Breakfast Club

Another actor who is fantastic at playing a specific type of douchebag, the late Paul Gleason is fantastic as Dick Vernon, the assistant school principal in the 80s teen classic The Breakfast Club. Overseeing the Saturday detention of a group of misfits, Vernon lays down a harsh brand of authority that takes no prisoners, pointed most clearly at Judd Nelson's John Bender, but keenly picking on the rest as well. He instructs them to sit silently without interaction or sleep for 9 hours, and to write an essay on who they each think they are, while periodically checking in on their progress. What makes Vernon a douche isn't just his general demeanour, but his attitude to the kids, as surmised by a final letter written by Brian to the guy, that he has already made up his own mind about who the kids are, and will not accept anything different. He is a pitch-perfect example of a stubborn old man incapable of seeing these kids in any other way than what he has already decided.
