2. Gal Gadot Cast As Wonder Woman
I've already written about this casting news in an article on Thursday, so I won't dwell on it too much here. However, it would be unwise not to mention one of the week's (year's?) biggest movie news stories: Gal Gadot has been cast as Wonder Woman in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel. Tentatively titled Batman Vs. Superman, the film hits theaters on July 17 2015 and pits Superman against the Dark Knight, who will be sharing the screen for the first time. Apparently those two juggernauts weren't enough, and now the Amazonian princess will make an appearance as well, though it has not yet been specified whether it will be a substantial role, or some sort of cameo. Israeli-born actress Gadot is best known for playing Gisele in the Fast and Furious franchise, and was one of the three actresses we previously reported was up for the role. She beat Olga Kurylenko (Oblivion) and Jaimie Alexander (Thor) for the iconic role, which will mark Wonder Woman's first ever live action feature film appearance. It's a step in the right direction for Warner Bros/DC, who have been incredibly nervous about bringing the character to life until now. Director Zack Snyder had this to say about Gadot's casting:
"Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character."
