3. Marvel Acquires Star Wars Comics Rights
Marvel and Star Wars seem to have dominated the news this week, but not in ways movie fans might have hoped. Instead of Episode VII casting announcements or word on more Marvel films, we instead are turning our attention to the
comics side of things, which some may have forgotten is what Marvel primarily does in the first place. On Friday, Disney, Lucasfilm, and Marvel
announced that beginning in 2015, Marvel will be granted exclusive rights to create and publish Star Wars comics and graphic novels. This of course ends the partnership that Lucasfilm has had with Dark Horse since 1991, and reunite Marvel and Lucasfilm since their last Star Wars comic was published in 1986. This news is altogether unsurprising, since Disney would of course want to unite both of their brands as much as possible. It's sad to see Dark Horse go, since they published some great work in their 20+ year run with the license, but it will be exciting to see what Marvel does with the galaxy far, far away.
