10 Biggest Questions Surrounding Upcoming Movies

6. Who Is Going To Be The DCEU's Main Batman? (The Flash/The Batman)

Cinematically, Batman is in a really fascinating position right now. On the one hand, his big-screen future looks incredibly bright, and full of promise - but on the other, it also looks deeply uncertain.

That brightness (not literally, of course - those dank Gotham alleyways could really use more street lighting) comes in the form of Robert Pattinson's The Batman. Here, we have a world-class filmmaker (Cloverfield/Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes helmer Matt Reeves) who has essentially been given carte blanche to deliver his own take on the Caped Crusader. There's no reason this movie can't be great.

So where's the uncertainty? Well, that lies with Batman's future - or lack thereof - within the mainline DCEU.

In 2020, DC Films president Walter Hamada confirmed that Reeves' Batman movie exists on a separate "Earth", away from the likes of Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman, and Jason Momoa's Aquaman. Gadot and Momoa used to hang around with Ben Affleck's Batman, but with Affleck stepping away from the role after the upcoming Flash movie, there's going to be a Dark Knight-shaped hole in the DCEU.

So who's going to fill it?

One possible answer is that The Flash - which is going to involve the multiverse - will introduce a new Batman to the DCEU, or even fold in Pattinson's Batman, linking those two Earths together. Alternatively, Batman might just be taking a break from the DCEU - giving this new, standalone, Pattinson-led universe a chance to shine.
