10 Biggest Reveals From Disney's D23 Expo 2015

5. Alice Through The Looking Glass Already Sounds Better Than Its Predecessor

I really wasn't a fan of 2010's Alice in Wonderland and certainly wasn't optimistic about its sequel Alice Through The Looking Glass. Details about the sequel have been pretty scarce, but seeing as the original cleared a billion for Disney five years ago, the company decided to break its silence at D23. The good news is that it sounds like a more ambitious film. Mia Wasikowska explained that the film will see her Alice moving through time, after something goes terrible wrong with the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp). There she encounters young versions of other characters, and gets some insight into Hatter's background. Okay so I'm not wild about giving Johnny Depp further opportunities to mug in make-up and a Hatter origin story sounds pretty naff. However, other things we learnt at D23 sound more optimistic, namely the fact time will be personified as a character portrayed by Sacha Baron Cohen. That in itself sounds interesting, and the time travel mechanics should hopefully ensure we avoid a flat reheat of the first movie. Visual regurgitation was actually a big part of what left me cold about that flick, so the new concept and director (The Muppets' James Bobin) should hopefully see this one achieve a more unique feel. Alice Through The Looking Glass opens on the 27th May 2016.
