Toy Story 3 is generally considered one of modern cinema's most accomplished sequels. So when news of a Toy Story 4 penned by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack broke last year, people were understandably a little confused. Where does the story go from 3? Will the character be familiar or fresh? D23 had some answers. Toy Story 4 will bring back both Buzz and Woody, in a narrative that plays as a love story between the latter and Bo Peep. Toy Story 3 suggested in one of its wonderfully pitched moments of melancholia that Bo Peep was no longer part of Andy's community of toys, so 4 will naturally deal with Buzz and Woody setting out to find her. Tom Hanks and Tim Allen will definitely return, with Don Rickles (Mr. Potato Head) also back in the mix. This is major news, but I'm not fully convinced its good. John Lasseter will direct, and reportedly the story drew deep inspiration from he and his wife's relationship, but I'm not sure if a subsidiary plot from the original trilogy (Bo and Woody clearly had a thang goin') really merits the resurrection of these characters. Still, after Inside Out, Pixar have regained my faith a little, so we'll see. Toy Story 4 is a ways off yet, aiming for a 16th June 2017 release.
