8. Ant-Man Was Introduced In Phase Two So He Could Be Used In Civil War
Ant-Man was a weirdly small-scale (pun not intended) way to close out Phase Two, which is the way Marvel planned it. Instead of having the blow out extravaganza of Age Of Ultron they wanted to focus on a more human story; thats why the stakes in Ant-Man arent exactly world threatening. With Marvel always keeping one eye on the future though they also wanted to introduce the character so he could involved in Civil War, where hell apparently have a big (again, no pun) part to play. This was teased in the after-credit scene of Ant-Man, where Falcon said he might know someone who can help out. Like a lot of things about Civil War the nature of Ant-Mans role is being kept a secret, though he and Falcon are said to get something of a bromance going.
