7. The Chinese Footage From Iron Man 3 Is Weird And Pointless
As China becomes a bigger and bigger market for movies Hollywood has been tripping over itself to add scenes that will appeal to that market; regardless of how much they add to the movie itself. Recent examples of movies blatantly trying to appeal to China include The Martian and Transformers: Age Of Extinction, which both had scenes with Chinese characters that felt completely out of place. At least Iron Man 3 had the good sense to remove their Chinese footage from all other versions, because none of the scenes featured are even half-way useful. The extra footage features two Chinese doctors as they discuss the upcoming surgery on Tony Stark, with them talking about how risky the operation will be. One of the doctors also tries to talk to Tony on the phone, but can only reach J.A.R.V.I.S. Theres about four minutes of extra footage all in all, none of which was shot by Shane Black or features any of the main cast. It jars completely with the rest of the story, and even has a couple of glaring plot holes (why is Tony travelling to China for heart surgury anyway?) Still, its interesting to finally see it.
