10 Blockbuster Films You Won't Believe Are Turning 20 Years Old
2. Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets
Following on from the immense success of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in 2001, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was released just one year later, following the Boy Wizard's second year at Hogwarts. While the movie was still targeted at a younger audience, it was clear to see that the films would grow up with the audience, with the cinematography and plot going deeper and darker than ever before.
Starring Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, this sequel literally began production the day after the release of the first movie, concluding in July 2002.
The movie was a commercial success, grossing $879 million worldwide and being nominated for a litany of awards having smashed the records set by the first movie. Despite this, it was only the second highest grossing movie worldwide of 2002, but we'll get to that... However, it was the biggest film outside of America, making $617m.
The movie was last of the series to feature the late Richard Harris as Albus Dumbledore, and arguably signalled a very early turning point for the movie franchise in terms of the darkness of the content.
As part of the franchise, though, Chamber of Secrets still holds up incredibly well and is arguably one of the better movies of the eight! Well, maybe CGI spiders aside... But the only real risk watching this movie is in seeing how young many of the actors were and feeling immensely old, as I'm sure you already do as we approach number one on the list.
