10 Blumhouse Productions That Prove The New Halloween Movie Is Doomed
2. Martyrs
If you’re going to remake one of the most intense and disturbing films of the last decade, you should probably try to remain true to its intentions lest you churn out a wimpy, unintentionally funny movie that cops out at every opportunity.
For the uninitiated, the 2008 original involved a young woman killing the couple that kidnapped and abused her as a child, which opens the door on a mysterious cult attempting to unlock the secrets of life and death. This remake reduces to female leads to squeaky-clean types for the Twilight demographic to identify with, while the cult becomes a bunch of Scooby villains who explain their diabolical masterplan at length during the denouement.
If you do decide to watch this time-waster, then be sure to check out the original beforehand so you can see for yourself how the narrative has been watered down. Such interference does not bode well for a proposed Halloween remake.
