10 Brilliant Films That Are Easy Targets For Haters
4. Interstellar (2014)
After a lengthy period of hype and intense speculation, Interstellar finally arrived late last year to a flurry of mixed reactions, naturally. Hailed by the majority of Nolanites as another bona fide winner but criticized in some quarters for failing to live up to the director’s best work, Nolan’s latest film provoked the kind of debate and discussion that typifies his output.
In fact, for every Nolanite who blindly supports any project the director is involved with, there are just as many individuals who blindly despise anything he touches. The Dark Knight Rises suffered from a similar fate (a film that almost certainly deserves a honorable mention on this list).
Interstellar is indeed flawed, but has the kind of scope that makes going to movies special. Despite some awkward pacing, easy sentimentality, and pandering it's still hard to resist. It's not just Nolan's ambition that should be admired.
He actually pulls off scene after scene of unforgettable drama in colossal scale, both in space and on Earth. Interstellar indeed isn't a match for Nolan at his best, but it’s more than a match for most films of such magnitude.
