3. Wes Craven's Doctor Strange

Scott Derrickson's Strange movie was far from the first attempt to get him into a movie. Not too long after Bob Gale was charged with making a Doctor Strange movie, a horror icon was also involved in an attempt to bring the Sorceror Supreme to the big screen.

In December 1992, Wes Craven had signed to write and direct Doctor Strange for release in either 1994 or 1995, with Savoy Pictures distributing, from a script by David S Goyer.

Sadly, we never got to see Craven's horror-infused twist on the property and though it might have been vastly different to the MCU version that was ultimately released, there's definitely some morbid fascination in the idea. It ultimately ended up dropped before 2000, when the character's rights were passed around and multiple names were tentatively attached to write and direct.

Just imagine a balls-out horror Doctor Strange movie and how incredible that might have been...
