10 Child Actors Who Reinvented Themselves With Very Adult Roles

5. Macaulay Culkin - Party Monster

Strand ReleasingStrand ReleasingNo offense to Macaulay Culkin, but it's going to take us a whole lot of years to make us forget him as a little kid. That's just one of the curses of having a truly prolific career before the age of 12 -- no matter what amazing and interesting roles he could take on as an adult, he's still always going to be little Kevin clutching his hands to his face screaming after putting on aftershave. And credit to Culkin, he did work on a lot of interesting projects. Nine years after filming Richie Rich back in 1994, he chose Party Monster as the first film he would star in as an adult. It was a film that dealt extensively with the New York City club scene, so needless to say, there was a lot of sex and drugs -- one of those movies that you just don't want to watch with your parents. He played Michael Alig, an infamous party promoter who was dubbed King of the Club Kids and rode out a wave of self destructive drug addiction which culminated in a murder, for which he went to prison. It was a shocking choice for one of America's favorite child actors, but while it drew attention, it wasn't the slam dunk critically that perhaps Culkin was hoping for.
