10 Classic Movies That Will Inevitably Be Remade

7. The Magnificent Seven (1960)

The Magnificent Seven is itself a remake, transporting the narrative of Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai to the Western genre and filling out the cast with big names including Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson and James Coburn. One of the best and most influential Westerns ever made, the movie is brilliantly entertaining and boasts some of the genre's greatest gunfights. While the basic plot of the movie has served as the inspiration for countless imitators across almost every genre, The Magnificent Seven has so far managed to avoid a straight-up remake, although rumors have picked up steam over the last couple of years. Back in 2012, Nic Pizzolatto wrote a first draft that saw Tom Cruise become attached to star in the update that would keep the Old West setting of the original, and rumors swirled that Matt Damon, Morgan Freeman and Kevin Costner were circling the project, but things fizzled after Cruise dropped out even after John Lee Hancock was hired to perform a rewrite of the script. However, a couple of months ago news broke that Antoine Fuqua and Denzel Washington were in talks to take over the remake, although nothing has been heard since. Remaking an undisputed classic is always risky move and Fuqua's filmography isn't the strongest, but having an A-lister like Washington attached brings the inevitable remake of The Magnificent Seven ever closer.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
