10 Cloverfield Lane: 9 Clues To What The Mystery Sequel Really Is
6. J.J. Abrams Is The Only Returning Creative
One of the few concrete piece of information we have on 10 Cloverfield Lane is J.J. Abrams comments that it is a "blood relative" to the original, which is about as vague as they come (and you thought "reboot" had an open meaning). It could signify anything, from Lane being a fully fledged Cloverfield 2 to a movie that simply uses novel pre-release tactics to build hype for a project people were otherwise unaware of. There's more than a whiff of Ridley Scott saying Prometheus had "Alien DNA" in it there, and I'm willing to bet it'll wind up being something on that level, with the movie connected the world of Cloverfield to enable the story but any expansion of the world going in its own direction. The big signifier for this is that Abrams is the only returning key creative - director Matt Reeves is taking an extended vacation to the Planet Of The Apes and writer Drew Goddard is getting in with Marvel (he was showrunner on Daredevil and has strong link's to Sony's Spider-Man) - meaning those who were instrumental in creating the world originally aren't on hand to help expand it.
