10 Cloverfield Lane: A Complete Guide To The Viral Marketing

1. The Latest

The most current step in the ARG was a follow-up post on the Fun And Pretty Things chat, where Stambler asks about the phone, indicating he hasn't got any of the messages and that perhaps he's been cut off ahead of an impending attack (thus reiterating his fears). And... that's everything up to now. The ARG for 10 Cloverfield Lane has taken us from a soft drink, through an oil company's website to an estranged father pleading for his daughter to heed his doomsday ramblings and come to his prepared bunker, with several hints at government cover-ups along the way. So, what can we conclude? Well, Howard Stambler is clearly a conspiracy theorist who's long being expected the end of the world, which has driven him away from his family, but he's still desperate to protect his daughter, a personal mission of unknown success (given what we know of the film she clearly doesn't make it to his bunker - Mary Elizabeth Winstead's character is Michelle - but may be in the Chicago backup). With the events of the movie we can presume he's proven right, although what exactly the threat is - nuclear, chemical, alien, monster, something else entirely - is up in the air, with fragments of evidence pointing to any of these. At the time of writing the film is just over a week away from release, so no doubt a few more elements will emerge in the coming days. I'll try and keep this post updated with any important developments (and if something does pop-up, feel free to drop me a message about it on Twitter - @ADLeadbeater). Have you been following the 10 Cloverfield Lane ARG? How does it stack up against Cloverfield's? Were there any big clues missed? Share your thoughts down in the comments.
