10 Comic Book Adaptations That Messed Up Iconic Stories

1. Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is unique in that not only did it adapt one wrong comic book story line, but two in the same movie.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Daredevil are aforementioned examples of films killing off characters too suddenly, but they were at least supporting characters. BvS killed off Superman himself in only this incarnation's second appearance! Shoehorning in the legendary Death of Superman arc at the tail end of a crossover movie that had a thousand other things going on was certainly ill-advised. Killing off The Man of Steel is a moment that should be earned over several outings, if you want audiences to actually care that is.

But that wasn't all, the Dark Knight Returns - long considered one of the all time best Batman graphic novels - also had heavy influence on the film. Having an older, disgruntled version of The Caped Crusader for his first appearance in a new shared universe was another mistake. Taking that more brutal incarnation of the vigilante and making him more violent and even murderous distracted from what should of been an epic confrontation.

BvS still brought in the big bucks, but not as many as expected, and failed to launch the DCEU as a rival to the already hugely successful MCU. Ben Affleck has since stepped down as The Dark Knight and Henry Cavill's status as Superman is up in the air.
