10 Comic Book Characters That Need The Brightburn Treatment

The Hulk lends himself to horror so easily.

The idea of experimenting on man and creating monster is nothing new; in fact, Hulk itself is a pretty clear riff on the Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde Victorian novella by Robert Louis Stevenson. Still, there are ways it can be Brightburnt to the extreme.

Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde is itself a gothic horror, so any look at the Hulk from that sort of angle has already been done. However, with a little bit of a twist on the origin, it could work.

The recent Godzilla movies have proved hugely ambitious, trying to recreate the nuclear symbolism of the Japanese original but falling short. An overcrowded plot, focus on the the wrong characters and some heavy handed cinematography have all pegged Godzilla back from its lofty goals.

Enter Brightburnt Hulk. A monster created by poison within his own blood, becoming rage personified. A more monster-like Hulk, smashing with impunity and without any heroics, mixed with commentary on pollution, military deterrents and experimentation on what makes man man (and what man is capable of when pushed) could see Hulk turned into a much darker character.
