10 Comic Book Movie Moments That Felt More Like Horror Movies
6. Red Skull Unmasks (Captain America: The First Avenger)
Captain America: The First Avenger is about as far away from being a horror movie as you can possibly imagine. It's a tale of heroism, morality and, to a lesser extent, love. That said, there was something of a horrifying moment in the middle of the movie. Whilst touring with his Captain America act in Italy, Steve Rogers is informed that his friend Bucky Barnes's military unit was declared missing in action following a battle against Red Skull's HYDRA forces. Although the likes of Chester Phillips declare Barnes dead, Rogers refuses to accept this fate for his pal and gets Agent Peggy Carter and Howard Stark to fly him behind enemy lines, alone, to rescue the man he believes to be alive. Infiltrating a HYDRA stronghold, Rogers frees his friend and a large group of other prisoners. He then confronts Red Skull, who removes his mask to reveal a red, deformed, skull-like visage that explains why he has his nickname. The moment is like the unmasking of a horror villain (kind of like an adult version of a Scooby Doo villain-unmasking-moment), as the man despised and viewed as a monster by so many reveals that he actually looks like one.
