10 Comic Book Movie One Liners That Were Unintentionally Hilarious
5. "Some Motherf***ers Are Always Trying To Ice-Skate Uphill" - Blade
Blade broke new ground for superhero movies in many ways, but it also plays host to one of the most bizarre and unexpected one-liners in the history of comic book cinema.
Moments before he executes villain Deacon Frost (Stephen Dorff), the Daywalker quips, "Some motherf***ers are always trying to ice-skate uphill."
It's not too difficult to unpack the meaning if you think about it for a moment: Blade's decrying Frost's efforts to upset the natural order, a difficult task not unlike trying to ice-skate up a hill. Got it? Good.
But the problem is that Snipes delivers the line with all the cool sincerity in the world, even though the words and sounds coming out of his mouth are completely absurd.
It makes a little more sense when you learn that Snipes was overheard saying the line on-set and writer David S. Goyer couldn't resist but write it into the screenplay last-minute.
It's certainly a memorable moment, but it's clearly meant to be a savage capper to Frost's death, not a thigh-slapping distraction from it.
